Baguio City lying in northern Luzon in Philippines is very urbanized. Established by Americans in 1900 on Kafagway village, Baguio remains the seat of government of Cordillera Administration. Named for bagiw meaning 'moss' in the local language it is actually covered with mossy plants and orchids.

Located 1,n. Its mild climate gets it the sobriquet Summer Capital of the Philippines. Tourism is the main industry that gets huge vacation crowds to the city nearly doubling the city population. Loakan Airport is the lone airport serving the general area of Baguio City. Baguio City is a university town teeming with students livening up the city profile.

It remains the center of education in the entire North Luzon. There are eight major institutions of higher education that includes the University of the Philippines Baguio, the national university of Philippines. Other famous institutions are the Philippine Military Academy, Saint Louis University, University of Baguio, University of the Cordilleras, Baguio Central University, and Pines City Colleges as also the Easter College.
