Los Banos is a 1st class urban municipality in the province of Laguna in Philippines. Situated 63 km southeast of Manila Los Banos is readily accessible via the South Luzon Expressway. The town lies on the northern slopes of the long dormant volcano Mount Makiling.

Los Baños is politically subdivided into 14 barangays. Well known as a tourist destination it is the hot spring resorts dotting the area that draw visitors. Tourists who visit Los Baños also come to the several native delicacies stores in the town to buy the famous Buko pie or coconut meat pie.

Los Baños is home to the University of the Philippines as also a few other local and international research centers like International Rice Research Institute, ASEAN Center for Biodiversity, Philippine Rice Research Institute, Philippine Carabao Center. The University of the Philippines Los Baños is a coeducational, publicly funded academic, research and extension institution.

The town is the veritable abode of thousands of undergraduate and graduate students and researchers. Aside from its importance in academics, science and research, Los Baños remains a favored tourist spot in close proximity to Metro Manila. Other than the hot springs, weekend and summer-time getaways take tourists to interesting spots in the area.
