Mindanao State University was established in Marawi City in 1961 with Dr. Antonio Isidro an eminent educationist as its founder and first president. After more than three decades of operation the University has grown into a multi-campus University System with seventeen colleges and degree-granting units in the Marawi campus alone.
It is one of the state universities of the Philippines that provides education for locations across the island of Mindanao. The campus has been expanded to a multi-campus university system and comprises of ten autonomous campuses including the MSU-Main Campus. It has study programs for Basic Sciences, Applied Sciences, Social Sciences, Arabic Studies, Inland Fisheries, Forestry, Agriculture, Engineering, Technology, Fundamental Science, Mathematics and Fisheries.
MSU is the only state university in the Philippines with the special mandate of mainstreaming the cultural communities of Mindanao to integrate them into socio-cultural and political life. Its stated mission aims to set the standards of excellence in science, arts, technology, and other fields.
The university has accelerated the economic, cultural, and agro-industrial development of cultural groups. Further the university works towards preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the region through conservation of its rich natural resources. It aims at providing education in science and technology, business, humanities, social sciences and related subjects.
