Quezon City, former capital of the Philippines is located on the island of Luzon. Quezon City popularly called QC is part of Metro Manila in the National Capital Region. The city named for Manuel L. Quezon, former president of Philippines was also the founder of the city that was to replace Manila as capital.
The city lies on a high plateau on the northeast corner of the metropolis between the lowlands of Manila and Marikina River valley. South Quezon City is drained by the narrow San Juan River while running through the north is the slim Tullahan River.
Quezon City has a tropical monsoon climate with a short dry season and a prolonged wet season. Many government offices are located in the city, including the Batasang Pambansa, the seat of the House of Representatives, which is the lower chamber in the Philippine Congress.
Also the main campuses of two noteworthy universities - the Ateneo de Manila University and the country's National University—the University of the Philippines, Diliman—are located in the city. Diliman is also home to the campus of the University of the Philippines Diliman. Far Eastern University's Institute of Technology on a 1f Diliman.
