Quiapo is a district of Manila in Philippines that is referred to as the "old downtown." Geographically located at the very center of the city of Manila, it is the place to buy cheap ranging electronics, bicycles and native handicrafts. With a sizeable Muslim population, Quiapo houses the Golden Mosque and Green Mosque that are located in the area. Plaza Miranda is in the heart of Quiapo District.

The University Belt is the unofficial name of the areas in Manila that are home to a high concentration or cluster of colleges and universities in the city. Quiapo comes in the illustrious University Belt having academies and institutions of higher learning in its precincts.

In recent years, the local government of Manila spearheaded the Buhayin ang Maynila (Revive Manila) project which greatly rehabilitated Quiapo and its vicinities, most specially the Plaza Miranda, the Lacson underpass and the University Belt.

With major universities and colleges located in Quiapo the established Manuel L. Quezon University is pre-eminently located in Hidalgo Street in Quiapo, Manila, Philippines. It is a member of the Colleges and Universities offering academic programs at the tertiary and graduate levels.
