The University of the East called Pamantasan ng Silangan in Filipino is commonly abbreviated to UE. This private nonsectarian university is located in the University Belt Area in Sampaloc district in Manila. Founded in 1946 it is a coeducational institution and was the first university in Asia to have an enrolled over 60,000 students.
Since the past 60 years of existence the University of the East has grown into a private university of great repute. It was granted an Autonomous Status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and is recognized as one of few tertiary institutions offering quality education.
UE offers degree programs in commerce and business administration, law, dentistry, engineering, arts and sciences, fine arts, education, computer technology, nursing, physical therapy, medicine and graduate studies. The University has two extension campuses, namely UE Caloocan and UERM in Quezon City.
Several colleges of UE – Manila are accredited the Level II and III status by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation and Philippine Accrediting Agency of Schools, Colleges and Universities. CHED identified the Information Technology Department as a Center of Development in Information Technology Education and accredited the College of Medicine and College of Nursing as centers of excellence.
