University of the Philippines in the Visayas is one of the units of the University of the Philippines system. It is part of the leading educational institution in the country and stands out for its marine science education and research, fisheries and aquaculture.

With four campuses in - Miagao, Iloilo City, Tacloban and Cebu, it is the Miagao main campus that houses the administrative offices. Most students come from the Visayas and Visayan linguistic groups. It is to the credit of the Institution that it has produced a number of public figures from its precincts.

The Philippines' Commission on Higher Education has awarded four National Centers of Excellence/Development to the University in the Fisheries, Marine Science, Biology and Information Technology programs. The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences is at the forefront of fisheries education in the country.

College of Arts and Sciences provides general education programs as the foundation of all academic programs in the University. School of Technology disseminates technology information. College of Management with two departments - of Accounting and Management offers many academic programs.
