University of St Agustin is a private university in Iloilo City in the Philippines. The genesis of the University dates back to 1904 when Augustinian friars from Spain founded the elementary school that has now been transformed into the prestigious University.
The university campus is situated in the heart of the city and houses the modern gymnasium, auditorium, conference and seminar rooms, science, computer and speech laboratories, museum, bookstore, library, instructional media center and tennis and badminton courts.
San Agustín promotes literature in the region through the Fray Luis de Léon Creative Writing Institute. Hosting numerous National Writers Workshops it offers writing fellowships in English, Hiligaynon and other Philippine languages. The university has a diverse student population.
Notable among recent developments in the university has been the establishment of research and communication centers. These are Institute for Augustinian Studies, Villanova Institute for Social Science Research and Cultural Studies, Mendel Institute for Natural Science and Technology Research and Institute for Social Development Issues and Initiatives.
